I’m Gonna Start Paywalling Some Posts, but Don’t Despair
Starting with this week’s post on Twitter porn, I’m going to start putting many of my posts behind a paywall. This is, largely, a marketing thing: it takes time and way too much school for me to write these things, and it’d be neat if I were paid for them. (Also, while I don’t think I’m exactly a blushing maiden in my posts already, I do feel at least marginally professionally safer putting some of the details of my own life in a slightly-more-difficult-to-access form.) But I’m also happy to give free subscriptions to basically anyone I know, no questions asked.
The short of it is, I make minimum wage as a grad student, and this is an experiment in supplementing that a little, as well as trying out my writing on a different audience from the four people who (might) read my dissertation. But I also don’t want anyone to feel guilted into paying me; my partners have big boy jobs, and I had the goddamn enormous privilege of getting through my education without debt. So I guess the request is basically this: if you like this and what I do, and $5 a month doesn’t mean much to you, consider subscribing; if it does mean something to you, just email me at mrkms7@gmail.com and I’ll give you a subscription. Thanks everyone who’s read and engaged with this thing so far – it’s been really good for me to talk to people about fun stuff and have ‘em listen and offer their own thoughts.
