About Piggy Portents

This newsletter is an outlet for me to use the intellectual tools of my humanities training to write more accessibly about more accessible topics. While I sometimes find the constraints of formal academic writing extremely difficult to operate in, I have realized that lots of friends enjoy discussing the research I do when I talk about it in casual social environments. Academic literary study can seem arcane and inscrutable, but I think a lot of people actually find the sort of knowledge and analysis it produces fun, interesting, and relevant when it’s presented in the right format.

In short, then, this newsletter takes highfalutin ideas from philosophy and social and aesthetic theory and applies them to things like Twitter porn. You can expect posts from me approximately every two weeks, in various formats (a brief informal essay, a chatlog, maybe even the occasional video), about an eclectic range of topics, though sexual practices and subcultures are particularly interesting to me. (I can’t promise I won’t occasionally want to blurt out an essay on Japanese Americana, though. I overanalyze a lot of things.)

Please note, if it is not obvious from the above, that this newsletter will occasionally include very frank descriptions of sex practices and media representing them, including my own.

Paid subscriptions

This post explains paid subscriptions. The tl;dr is that this project takes some time and effort and I could use the money, so I paywall some posts, but I’m happy to give free subscriptions if the paywall is a barrier.
